Effects of Lavandula angostifolia L. on hematological parameters, liver enzymes and approximate carcass composition in Ctenopharyngodon idella

Lavandula angostifolia is one of the medicinal plants that has many medicinal properties. In the present study, different levels of Lavandula angostifolia extract were studied on hematological parameters, liver enzymes and approximate carcass composition in Ctenopharyngodon idella. The fish were placed in the form of four treatments in three replications (30 repetitions per fish). The fish were fed carp diet including three levels of 0.1, 0.5 and 1% and a control group for 8 weeks. According to the results, the amount of total protein was significant among the experimental treatments, so that fish fed T3 diet (1% of extract) had the highest amount of total protein (P <0.05). Hepatic enzyme levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were not significantly different between different treatments (P> 0.05). With increasing the concentration of plant extract, the levels of cholesterol (Chol) and triglyceride (TG) decreased significantly, so that in T3 treatment (containing 1% extract) the lowest amount of cholesterol (Chol) and triglyceride (TG) was measured (P <0.05). The highest amount of albumin (Alb), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was related to T3 treatment (1% of the extract) and the lowest amount was related to the control treatment, although these differences were not significant (P <0.05). The amount of glucose was significantly different between treatments, so that with increasing the concentration of lemongrass extract, the amount of glucose was reduced and the lowest amount was observed in T3 treatment (P <0.05). According to the results, in experimental treatments, the amount of protein, fat and moisture of fish carcasses in different levels of plant extracts were not significantly different (P> 0.05) while the highest amount of ash was observed in the treatment containing the highest concentration of plant extracts (P < 0.05). In general, it can be stated that the extract of Lavandula angostifolia plant has not had a negative effect on the function of liver enzymes.
